This is to inform you that Uranium has been detected in the Keewaywin water supply at levels that exceed the Maximum Acceptable Concentration's (MAC's).  The current MAC for Uranium in drinking water is 0.02 mg/L.  The water was initially tested for many chemicals earlier this year and Uranium was found to exceed the MAC at 0.027 mg/L.  We then proceeded to re-sample for Uranium and levels were found to be 0.032 mg/L for the second sample, again exceeding the MAC.

this information was communicated to Kristina Taracha P.Eng, our Drinking Water Engineer and she recommended the following Procedures:

1.  As a precautionary measure, the community should not use the current water supply for drinking purposes. Bathing, washing, and cleaning are fine.

2.  Community members should drink BOTTLED water until a new Uranium-free source of water is found, or that the existing water suppply is equipped with a treatment system that will effectively remove Uranium in the water.
Keewaywin will soon be providing bottled water for the community residents.
